Taliban ready to remove the ban on educating women in Afghanistan.
Afghan Education Minister Ghulam Farooq Wardak told the Times newspaper, UK, that "cultural change" meant the Taliban "no longer opposes education for girls."
Taliban - who continue to fight against the Kabul government - has not made any public statements related to this issue.
Afghan women were not allowed to work or receive education when the Taliban regime was ousted in 2001 in power.
Farooq Wardak issued this statement in the World Education Forum held in London. He told the Times, "What I hear from Taliban's high-level policy makers is they are no longer opposed to education and education for women. I hope, Inshallah, the peace talks will take place, an important negotiations with the opposition that will not sacrifice all the basic principles of human rights and basic principles which allow us to provide quality and balanced education for the people," he said.
The agreement between the militants and the local rural elders to allow girls and female teachers to return to school has been achieved in many parts of Afghanistan.
In October, Afghan President Hamid Karzai confirmed that unofficial talks with the Taliban leadership was running, and the goal was to end the bloody insurgency that has ravaged the country for more than nine years.
A BBC correspondent in Kabul, said the statement Marooq Wardak was hinted that negotiations were not only cover topics such as the release of prisoners, but has penetrated the government on policy issues.
But the education minister admitted that the action of opposition to education in the country is not only by the Taliban but by "other elements" in Afghan society. "That's why many provinces in Afghanistan don't have teachers, both men and women. When the Taliban came to power, the percentage of female students in one million students were 0%. Percentage of female teachers was 0%. Now 38% of students and 30% of teachers in our country are women," he said.
