I remember our first meeting, in front of a bookstore in a very posh mall in your city. I saw the announcement on the Internet. There was a book launch. You became a speaker at the event. I was so blind and hated this city. That afternoon, I ventured to come alone. I wanted to meet you. Shortly after the event was over, I bought your poetry book which had just been published. Not just because I really wanted it, but I hopes that it could be a reason to be able to talk to you. Really, I was very nervous at that time. I stood in the corner, saw you serving people who were asking for your autograph and took pictures with you. I did not bring a camera. I didn't have it, the exactly thing was. I waited until the remaining one person who asked for an autograph, then I came to you. My hands trembled when thrusting your book to be signed. You asked me, while you stared at my face. "To whom?"
When I mentioned my real name, you looked surprised and turned to hug me. I was more surprised and more nervous. You said you had read some of my poems in newspapers and you loved it. At that time you made time and asked me to talk about poetry, also invited me to stay in your home. The first meeting on a beautiful afternoon, dahling. Our second meeting was when you and I were both invited to read a poem, also a poet of France in the same group. We read poetry and recorded by two video cameras. I was the last. You were the first. Nights later, along with several poets from other countries, we often met. I got a turn to read poetry on the third night, you were on the last night. I was nervous reading poetry in front of you. I remembered, one of the poems you read was poetry that I mentioned in my letter. I carried a camera at that time. I borrowed my friend's camera. I had some of your pictures. After that event, we met several times. I was happy to talk more things at the time. I fell in love with your simplicity and your familiarity, even to people who were just learning to write poetry, like me. Thank you, dahling.
I once wrote a poem inspired by your poetry. About the shadow of an old man in one afternoon. He walked with shadows in one evening, asking in doubt, " Do I make the shadow or the shadow shorten me?" It was a four-line bad poem. Forgive me, dahling. Thank you for continuing to write a lot of poetry to the world and our life. I learn a lot of your poems. Take care of your health. ► SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY : This past spring I spent more time chasing storms on the plains than ever before. The most I had spent prior to this was seven total days and that was last year. What I came away with from that short time made me realize that if I could double that...the stuff I could capture would be amazing. Of course I long to be out there for a month or longer, but when you live in Phoenix and have a wife and three kids...you have to be realistic.
I turned 40 years old this year and I told my wife all I wanted was 10 days chasing on the plains. She loves me though and it ended up being 14! Two days in April and then 12 straight days from May 23rd - June 3rd. Those 12 days were absolutely incredible. I'm friends with other chasers via social media, met them on the side of roads while chasing, even grabbed dinner together...but never have I felt more of a part of the chaser community than being out there for almost two weeks. Living the life...seeing the same amazing chasers over and over...it was overwhelming to me. I missed my family, it was hard at times, but it was one of the best experiences of my life.
Both chases originated from where I live in Arizona. In April I drove out all night to Colorado, slept maybe an hour, chased all day, got a good night's sleep, chased the next day in the Texas panhandle and drove home that same night, stopping only for a quick nap in New Mexico. The second chase was the same. Left Phoenix late on the evening of May 22nd, never really slept and the chase was on the next day. All in all I drove well over 12,000 miles over the course of those two weeks, visited 10 total states (New Mexico, Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana and North Dakota) and shot over 45,000 frames of footage for this film.
I have many people to thank. Pat O'Brien for being my first private tour attendee this spring. Mike Mezeul II for one very big tip on a spot above Rapid City, SD. To James Langford who not only guided me to that spot over the phone, but "now-casted" for me many, many times. I may have missed out on four crucial clips in this film if it wasn't for him suggesting I punch the core in South Dakota. Thank you sir. And to my pal Andy Hoeland...who was with me for over a week of my time out there, driving, looking at forecasts, talking to weather experts and always helping us have a great target for that day. He's become my chase partner for most of these big plains trips and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Also thanks to Cinetics for sending me their Axis 360 to play with. I used it one time in this film and wish I had used it more. I love that scene.
Finally...above everyone else, of course...is my wife. To let me go for that long, to never complain, to never discourage me...but to only believe in me...how could I be so lucky to deserve a wife like that? We have three kids and that's tough on a parent to have her husband away that long. It will never cease to amaze me that I would not be here, doing this, if it wasn't for her support and encouragement.
Technical details...everything was shot on Canon 5D3's, along with an array of Rokinon lenses. I got sick of lens-twisting (mostly of FORGETTING to lens twist) so I mainly used those manual lenses on this trip. Everything was processed using LR Timelapse, Lightroom, After Effects and Premiere Pro.
I'm in absolute love with this film. The stuff I saw rivaled anything I've ever seen on the plains minus that insane Booker supercell in 2013. We saw four tornadoes (one of them appears in a deleted scene at the very end of the film), countless supercells, gorgeous shelf clouds, stunning mammatus and some awesome lightning shows. The song..well, the song for this film blew my mind. I loved it when I heard it, but then seeing how everything started coming together on the timeline, the pace, the slow build-up, the huge ending...I've said it before, but the song is 50% of the film. Thank you again Kerry for everything!
All this movie does it fuel me to want to do better next year and this summer in Arizona. Stay tuned for Monsoon II and for The Chase II next spring!

There's poignancy behind the elegance of Taj Mahal. Taj Mahal was built by Mughal's empire under the reign of Shah Jahan as a mausoleum in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died while giving birth. Jeweled building was completed in about 1647 and its location in Agra city is a monument which was then considered to be the most impressive example of Mughal architecture. This mausoleum also has survived the invasion of Jat people as well as British colonial during the Indian Mutiny in 1857. Then Taj Mahal restored and fitted with scaffolding so that it was protected from bomb attacks in World War II. Many theories have recently claimed that Taj was designed not as a symbol of deep feelings of love, but rather as a map on the interpretation of Judgment Day by Sufi version, mysticism in Islam. Taj Mahal building also can't be separated from the family feud, since shortly after the construction was completed, Shah Jahan was deposed and imprisoned by his own son, but the son finally completed his devotion as a child to bury his father beside Mumtaz. The beauty of the Taj Mahal requires 22 years to be completed. During that time, the construction was done by no less than 20,000 people and 1,000 elephants. The magnificent dome nearly 200 feet tall is actually a dome in the dome, sphere of outer frame is larger than the inside. Therefore, if the exterior dome visible from the inside, its symmetry will look imperfect. Taj's peak designed with a shape like a lotus flower. Ornate sarcophagus on display for visitors to the Taj Mahal is actually empty. And the original tomb placed in the basement, hidden. Taj can be visited after dark, on a full moon night and two days before and afterward. On Fridays and during Ramadan, the mausoleum is closed. Indian poet, Rabindranath Tagore, described the Taj Mahal as a "teardrop on the face of time". However, the Taj is now facing the most dangerous threat: environmental degradation. Taj Mahal stands on the edge of Yamuna river which dries slowly. The shrinking of Yamuna river's water level accelerates the wood decay that supporting its structure, so that it is feared can collapse at any time.
