► Snapshots of the American Civil War. This year marks 150 years since the Battle of Gettysburg, perhaps the most important - and certainly the bloodiest - battle of the American Civil War. Coinciding with that anniversary the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is staging a landmark exhibition of what are being described as ''the finest and most poignant'' photographs from these cataclysmic four years in which an estimated 750,000 Americans lost their lives. The Met's chief curator of photography, Jeff Rosenheim, has also written a book - Photography and the American Civil War - to accompany the show. He's been speaking to Michael Maher.
► Giant egg from extinct elephant bird up for auction. A rare giant bird egg is being auctioned at Christie's auction house in London. It was laid by an Elephant Bird (Aepyornithidae) in Madagascar and is thought to have been discovered by archaeologists in the late 19th or early 20th century. The species became extinct sometime between the 13th and 17th centuries. James Hyslop, scientific specialist at Christie's said, "the egg is the largest egg ever laid by any animal, they are bigger than dinosaur eggs."
► Baby George King born at 15lbs 7oz. George King was born six weeks ago to his parents Jade and Ryan. Because no-one knew he would be so big his parents said it was a struggle to deliver him. George went without oxygen for five minutes. He was given a 10% chance of survival. He was transferred to St Michael's Hospital in Bristol but allowed home four-and-a-half weeks later.

■ (RS) Berezovsky post-mortem rules hanging, no third party involved. A post-mortem examination reveals that the death of Russian, self-exiled tycoon Boris Berezovsky was 'consistent with hanging'. His body was found in the bathroom of his UK home on Saturday.
