► There's No Such Thing As Offline? Are You Online? What an outdated question this has become! Of course you're online, unless you're an off-the-grid survivalist or a remote tribesmen! From Facebook to bank accounts, you always have some sort of online presence, whether you're actively engaging in front of a screen or not. Yet this is still a word we use to describe our engagement with the Internet. So we have to ask, is this online/offline distinction even worth making? Because we may need to re-evaluate the very word "ONLINE"... Published on Feb 20, 2013 by pbsideachannel
►Worlds Cutest Frog - Desert Rain Frog. Published on Feb 13, 2013 by Dean Boshoff || REUTERS : (ROUGH CUT: NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: The vocal Namaqua Rain Frog has gained internet notoriety - for it's squeak. The tiny amphibian measures less than 5cm in length and is a burrowing frog. It spends most of its time underground and does not inhabit water. This particular squeaky frog was caught on film in the sand dunes along Port Nolloth in South Africa. When feeling threatened, this type of frog can inflate their bodies dramatically as a defense mechanism to deter predators as well as make the squeaky distress call.

► Turtle gets prosthetic flippers. Feb. 19 - A Japanese aquarium fights to get a 25-year-old loggerhead turtle swimming again, after a shark attack left her front fins torn to shreds five years ago. Tara Cleary reports : Yu the loggerhead turtle gets a second chance. Five years ago, she was attacked by sharks and critically wounded -- her front flippers torn almost to stubs. That's when a Japanese aquarium stepped in. Curator Naoki Kamezaki assembled a research team to try and get Yu swimming again. They came up with rubber flippers, held together with wet suit fabric. But it's not been easy: now on pair number 27 and almost five years later, Yu's flippers still fall off in the water. SOUNDBITE: Naoki Kamezaki, Director general of Suma Aqualife Park, saying (Japanese): "There have been times I wanted to give up and just fix her up the best we can and throw her back in. Then if luck's on her side she'll be fine; if not, she'll get eaten and that's just life. That would be the way of nature, I suppose." Even though Yu is severley restricted Kamezaki hopes her rubber flippers may enable her to breed. SOUNDBITE: Naoki Kamezaki, Director general of Suma Aqualife Park, saying (Japanese): "My dream for her is that one day she can use her prosthetic fins to swim to the surface, walk about and dig a proper hole to lay her eggs in. When her children hatch, well, I just feel that would make all the trauma in her life worthwhile." Pacific loggerhead numbers have reportedly declined by 80 percent over the last decade - making Yu's instinctual need to swim, small yet significant progress.

■ How Italy's election works
Feb. 25 - Italian comedian and blogger Beppe Grillo casts his vote in one of the closest and least predictable polls in years | Jessica Gray reports : Italian comedian and blogger Beppe Grillo casts his vote in his hometown of Genoa, Italy. According to recent polls, his 5-Star Movement party could win 16 percent of the popular vote in elections that close today. A political newcomer, Grillo's national campaign tour in a camper van channeled the frustration of everyday Italians tired of a failing economy, austerity measures and rampant corruption. After voting, Grillo accused other politicians of "scheming", adding that Italy's economy is in ruins. The only way to get out of this mess is to start over and revolutionize politics. The election is one of the most closely watched and unpredictable votes in years. Voter surveys place Prime Minister Mario Monti's central-left coalition in the lead, with Silvio Berlusconi's right-leaning party close behind. Many worry that a surge of protest votes could result in a new government unable to pull the country from its economic slump. (SOUNDBITE) (Italian) VOTER, GIORGIA AGOSTINO, SAYING: "I'm not hopeful. I don't feel represented by any party. I just tried to limit the damage." The stakes are high, since Italy is the euro zone's third largest economy and a political stalemate could reawaken market instability.

"And there were other rocks that were like animals, creeping, horrible animals, putting out their tongues, and others were like words I could not say, and others like dead people lying on the grass. I went on among them, though they frightened me, and my heart was full of wicked song they put into it; and I wanted to make faces and twist myself about the way they did, and I went on and on a long way till at last I liked the rocks and they didn’t frighten me any more" - Arthur Machen
