Army supporters of Ivory Coast's opposition leader, Alassane Ouattara, succeeded in occupying Toulepleu, northern Ivory Coast. This made the political situation after rejection of the resignation of President Laurent Gbagbo became increasingly chaotic.
The young men (who pro Gbagbo) lunged and looted the goods from the Ouattara supporter's house in Abidjan. Eyewitnesses in Abidjan said the police were unable to act, despite seeing the looting incident. The rebel troops had occupied parts of northern and western Côte d'Ivoire. Some analysts believe, the riots in many cities of the world's largest cocoa producer signifies the failure of ceasefire between the rebels and government. UN agencies launch, more than 200 thousand people have been displaced for 2 weeks.
Earlier, the security forces has shot six women who were demonstrating in support of Ouattara in Abobo. African Union has appointed five African leaders to mediate the political conflict in Cote d'Ivoire.

CieL- FreYa Ceastle, Pranay Suresh and Adriaan Zef like this.
Adriaan Zef : The reports that Liberian mercenaries would go to join the battle has increased this mistrust.
CieL- FreYa Ceastle : Well, this is a reflection of grim image of the African continent which constantly hit by turmoil, armed conflicts, tribal wars, famine, disease, and ecological destruction.
CieL- FreYa Ceastle : There may be some areas of this earth have an undying curse.
Pranay Suresh : The economy is so devastated. Civil war is almost certain. One thing for sure is the decline of democracy!
Pranay Suresh : Kwasi Anning - Peacekeeping analyst, Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre on BBC : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-12084397

Valentino Vie : Gbagbo's attitude will be a bad precedent for other African countries, because some (which each also has the potential conflict) will soon hold the election on this year, like Nigeria, Guinea, Zimbabwe and Kenya. ECOWAS and the UN should be able to resolve this conflict, otherwise there will be a tragedy for African people as a whole.
Cisca Zarmansyah : Félix Houphouët-Boigny, nOy. They missed him
Valentino Vie : haha... sweet darling, you know that! The Ivory Coast's political leaning to the West. He really hated the Soviets. In 1969 he severed the diplomatic relations with Moscow. Among the Third World he voiced the moderate. Often he was referred to as America's best friend, but now it was not much benefit from his attitude. I know that you know that!
Cisca Zarmansyah : But for 33 years under the rule of papa Houphouët, Ivory Coast grew into the most stable and prosperous countries in Africa, Noy. Le Vieux!
Valentino Vie : But if the success in the economic field is not matched by development in the democracy field, then this is the result. Strife, bloodshed and civil war. Remember what was going on there in 2002-2004? The general election which was held after the peace agreement couldn't afford to perpetuate the peace. This is exactly as we keep the embers.
