An international financial think-tank has warned world leaders attending the G20 summit of top economies to concentrate on improving global banking regulations.
Adriaan Zef : World leaders stated that they would work together to overcome "the tensions and vulnerabilities" in the global economy that generated fear in the emergence of war exchange rates and trade protectionism, after they held a meeting of the G20 group in Seoul, Friday.(Nov 12, 2010)
Here's a summary of things that have been decided in the summit.
GLOBAL IMBALANCES
Eliminate the gap between rich countries and debtor countries have been the cornerstone G20. G20 leaders agree on a framework for balanced growth, handed over the medium term economic plan to IMF in order to ensure they don't clash, while the final summit communique doesn't move any further.
In Seoul, Washington should give up because they can't force the other parties agree on quantitative targets for deficit and current account surplus.
Instead, the leaders instruct the G20 finance ministers to map out a series of "indicative guidelines" in order to assess their current account imbalances under consultation with the IMF, but let the details discussed in the first half of next year.

CURRENCIES
Currency exchange rate is the focus of the debate about global imbalances. United States and some countries have to persuade China to let its currency to strengthen more quickly and accuse Beijing of deliberately making its currency low so that the gain trade advantage.
But Washington faces a more difficult time in realizing that desire when its allies looked cheap money policy pursued by the Federal Reserve aimed to weaken the U.S. dollar.
G20 leaders promised to refer the matter to foreign exchange market mechanism, and avoid competitive devaluations (the deliberate devaluation in order to improve the competitiveness of exports). This pledge is a repetition of the commitments made at the meeting of finance ministers G20 countries last month.
However, given the growing influence of state-wide economic developing countries like Brazil, G20 states that countries with condition of "Emerging Economies", and their exchanges rate becomes more expensive (overvalued) and face an undue burden, are entitled to adopt "macroeconomic policies-prudential designed carefully" to control the capital for coping with capital inflows.
In the previous G20 meeting, leaders bargain with each other about whether the final summit statement would offend China for letting its currency weak, but this doesn't happen again.
***
FINANCIAL SYSTEM SETTING
World leaders signed an agreement "Basel III" to improve the quality and quantity of bank capital, which became the central financial system reforms proposed financial crisis.
They also support the proposed establishment of the Financial Stability Council to tighten supervision to deal with the derivatives market and reduce reliance on debt-rating agencies. Nevertheless, the leaders of the G20 don't fully agree on the agenda of other regulations.
G20 support a series of general recommendations by the Financial Stability Council to determine how the banks considered "too big to be left bankrupt" (too big to fail) ", but there is disagreement on issues such as whether the institutions should be subject to the imposition of fees further capital, given the many things that need to be done again on a number of specific steps that are planned.
***
TRADE
All slow-growing developed countries want to export his own way for the health of the economy and this is the base of the tension surrounding the currency and global imbalances.
G20 leaders have promised not to pursue protectionist policies and continues to work for the Doha round of trade liberalization talks.
Meanwhile, South Korea and the United States failed to agree a free trade agreement which had long they were talking about, especially given that the provision of access for U.S. automakers to the South Korean automotive market was favorable.
***
IMF
The leaders support reform package offered by their finance ministers last month to reform the International Monetary Fund to reflect a shift in the balance of global economic power.
Under this agreement, more than 6 percent share of votes in the Fund will be transferred to developing countries like China that will become members of the third largest country of an organization with 187 members based in Washington.
