Sadism and radicalism continues to be shown by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria to the world community. Latest sadism conducted by ISIS to the Jordanian pilot named Moaz al-Kassasbeh by burning him alive. This incident just days after execution which was also done by ISIS to Japan Freelance journalist, Kenji Goto.
Meanwhile, the world community does not go do a strategic and comprehensive real action to stop the actions taken by ISIS or other radical groups. Strategic real action I mean here is a comprehensive effort, ranging from prevention, the completion of problem's roots, until the militaristic approach. Resolution efforts undertaken by the world community is militaristic, such as what is done by the global coalition under the United States leadership.
Let alone succeed, ISIS is even more brutal. Even majority of the US coalition members -- such as United Arab Emirates -- reported later withdrew from the US coalition after the burning of Jordan pilot.
In the Middle East context, at least there are two main factors for the emergence of various radicalism. First, the political conflict. In recent years, many countries in Middle East are facing the problem of acute radicalism, particularly the countries that had been hit by Arab Spring as Libya, Egypt, Yemen, and Syria.
Politically, the world is different in addressing radicalism that occurs in those countries. In the context of ISIS -- which often spread sadism in Syria and Iraq, for example -- as if the world's people have reached a consensus that this movement should be regarded as common enemy. However, the attitude of world community is also different in addressing various radicalism in Egypt, which is thought to involve the followers and sympathizers of Muslim Brotherhood, especially after military overthrew Mohamed Morsi in 2013, although the current Egyptian authorities have sentenced Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist movement. The difference in world community's attitude, even worse, happening in Palestinian context. Various violence in this region are so often 'forgotten', whereas they have claimed thousands of lives.
The difference is certainly in accordance with their respective national interests. However, the thing that must be considered is: various acts of violence that occurred in those countries, indeed, revealing a substance : loss of peace, loss of sense of security, even the destruction of humanity. In terms of factors, various violence caused by political conflict factors.
Prolonged political conflict will lead to the birth of various forms of radicalism and sadism. This is what always happens in Palestine, continues in Syria, Egypt, and others. Therefore, the world community should give great attention to resolve various political conflicts in the region, not by war.
What is going on with ISIS can be used as an example of what I said. The world community prefers to attack ISIS directly rather than resolving political conflict in Syria and Iraq. In fact, ISIS actually born as a result of various political conflicts in the two countries which occurs in prolonged and unresolved to this day.
Even in the Palestinian context, as if the world's people are very heavy to support the country to gain their independence and to live in peace with Israel. Even diplomatic efforts at the United Nations to create an independent Palestinian often underestimated.
The second factor is puritanism. This is a deciding factor for the flourishing of various radical groups in the Middle East. Social and political context can be fertile ground for the emergence of religious movement with puritanism and terroristic style.
In other words, religious ideology can be a justification for the ideals of violence which is born of the socio-political context, far from secure and tranquility. Through religious justification, violence designed by a particular group can be run in a sadistic, do not show "noble face" of religion in the slightest.
What must be understood together is puritanism and religious radicalism often goes with a passion for slicing the people's unity. In the study of radical movement, this spirit born of a tendency to specialize the group itself as well nullify the other. Thus, group or nation which at first is one, then broken down in such a way to be "our group" and "their groups". And so on, group into smaller variants which continues sliced into smaller with more extreme sadism.
This is what is currently experienced by ISIS. A group which was originally hosted on an Al-Qaeda now appear with more extreme radicalism and sadism than carried by Al-Qaeda. The Al-Qaeda itself is a metamorphosis of other previously radical movements.
