Published on Dec 3, 2012 :: The financial sanctions on Iran are now having a real impact. Earlier this week, people in Tehran openly complained that the Iranian currency is drastically losing value against the dollar, pushing up prices. Meanwhile, Iran's leadership is already dealing with a threat from Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli leader, who delivered a strong speech at the United Nations against the Iranian nuclear programme. There is also the situation in Syria, where Iran's relationship with the Assad regime is forcing the Iranian leadership to take sides. And then there is Egypt: A new leader, President Morsi, is changing the geopolitical landscape. Is this an opening for Iran? We sat down with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran's president, in New York, to discuss where things stand and where we are headed.

They danced. My eyes were watching them when my heart was filled with fragrance of love. To my fiance, to our baby and to all the memories of dancing with loved ones. Paris, America, Switzerland, The Netherlands. There is a floor. Two bodies close together, two bodies trying to bring the two feelings. (And I'm not trying to dance with more than a pair of arms hugging my body, such as the three of us, maybe? Ehheheh ...) Although I am a fan of all shades of blue, (can be started from the gray, to blue, to purple, to pink, and will probably lead to more red than pink, and instinctively I'll be back again, to the blue) but I'm not anti red. My partner says I am the Madame Blue. And when I finally wear my blue glasses, this world looks more filled with love. In blue.

► Richard Blanco: Inaugural poet on explaining US in a verse. 21 January 2013 - Barack Obama broke a lot of barriers when he became the US's first black president. Now, for his second swearing in, he has chosen an inaugural poet who is also making history. Richard Blanco will be the first Hispanic inaugural poet. He is the first openly gay one to read a verse at the occasion. And at the age of 44, he is also the youngest. Blanco will follow in the footsteps of Robert Frost, who was picked by President John F Kennedy when he started the tradition in 1961, and Maya Angelou who was chosen by President Bill Clinton in 1993. He was conceived in Cuba but born in Spain after his parents fled the Castro regime. They then emigrated to Florida where Blanco first studied and worked as an engineer before turning to poetry as a profession. He talked to BBC Mundo's William Marquez about the poem he will read at the ceremony on the Capitol steps in Washington, DC to mark the second inauguration of President Obama. || VIDEO Produced for the BBC by Marc Georges and Marcus Zeffler

The Islamists claim they wanted to negotiate the release of their captives, but the offer was turned down, with the Algerian military deciding to storm the facility - causing a bloodbath. More terror attacks have now been promised - unless France ends its campaign in West Africa. Some of the hostage-takers were militants from Libya - where Paris helped Islamists topple Colonel Gaddafi, who had warned of an impending Al Qaeda-surge in the region, as Polly Boiko reports.
