► 'Israeli settlements roadblock to solid peace solution'. Published on Dec 1, 2012 - Washington has hit out at Israel for authorizing 3-thousand new settler homes, in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Israel's move came a day after the UN General Assembly upgraded Palestine to being a 'non-member' observer. The US called the construction decision counter-productive to peace negotiations on a two-state solution. Human rights activist Steve Hynd thinks both sides are further apart from a two-state solution than ever. (VIDEO)
► 'Palestine can now sue Israel for illegal occupation'. Published on Dec 1, 2012 - The U.S. has criticized Israel for approving settlement expansion directly after the UN recognised Palestine as a non-member observer state. Washington says its a step back for peace talks.
3-thousand new settler homes have been given the go ahead in the West Bank and East Jerusalem less than 24 hours after the UN vote. Israel has accused the Palestinians of seeking unilateral recognition and not a solution through talks. The Palestinians in turn demand that all settlement building is stopped before negotiations resume. 138 states voted to upgrade Palestine's status, with 9, including the U.S. voting against and 41 abstaining. Political analyst Phyllis Bennis says the Palestinians could now take action against Israel through global institutions. (VIDEO)

► Talk to Al Jazeera - Amr Darrag: A 'perfect system' for Egypt. Published on Dec 1, 2012 - Egypt is in crisis - again. President Mohamed Morsi's decree giving himself unlimited powers has brought thousands of Egyptians on to the streets. Morsi says his decree is temporary, aimed at preventing judges of the former dictatorship from disbanding the assembly writing the new constitution. At the heart of the controversy lies the draft constitution.
Some groups feel the assembly that has written the current draft is dominated by Muslim groups. Already secularists, leftists, Christians and even the farmer and journalist syndicates have pulled out of the Egyptian Constituent Assembly. Some of them were hoping the courts would order a new assembly be formed, before the draft is issued.
Too late. The assembly beat the judges Friday morning. But it is not game over. It is not clear whether the protests will end even if Morsi's unlimited powers are rescinded. And will people approve a document boycotted by so many factions when it goes to a referendum? And there are questions about the content of the new constitution. Where is it taking the country? What does it say about human rights, the rights of women and minorities and the role of the military and Sharia law?
On Talk to Al Jazeera we speak to the secretary general of the Constituent Assembly, a man who left his engineering background to help draft a new constitution for Egypt: Amr Darrag.
