By Zahra Hosseinian - DUBAI - Thousands of Iranians celebrated on the streets into Sunday's early hours, counting on moderate president-elect Hassan Rohani to follow through on promises of better relations abroad and more freedom at home after routing hardliners at the polls.

■ Syria conflict: David Cameron and Vladimir Putin still divided. David Cameron and President Putin can overcome differences on Syria to bring new momentum to efforts to stop the killing in Syria, the British prime minister has said. Speaking after talks at Downing Street, ahead of the G8 summit in Northern Ireland, Mr Cameron said it was no secret he and the Russian president had disagreements over the crisis, but that they shared a common aim - to end the conflict. Mr Putin warned western nations not to supply arms to the rebels. - Bridget Kendall reports.

St Peter's Square in Rome has resounded to the roar of thousands of motorcycles as bikers from around the world joined Roman Catholic pilgrims for Mass and a blessing by Pope Francis.
