Cisca Zarmansyah: The members of the U.S. Congress have reached agreement to cut billions of dollars from the federal budget and avoid the government's closure a few minutes before midnight time limit (Washington time). President Barack Obama said there were "painful cuts" in reaching agreement on Friday night, which cut 38 billion dollars from the budget in 2011.
Senate and House have approved the temporary financing, which immediately submitted to the President to get signed. A vote on the full budget was expected mid next week.
John Boehner said there was a long struggle in reaching agreement, but he said it was important to reduce state spending and created better conditions for creating jobs.
Harry Reid said that compromise was difficult but important for the country. He said the Americans must make difficult choices, as well as members of Congress.
If the agreement is not reached, about 800 thousand of total about 1.9 million federal civil servants will be forced to laid off, and the salaries of combat troops will be delayed in payment.
You, Pranay Suresh, Jan Pepijn Servaas and 2 others like this.
Adriaan Zef: This is something historic, hon. Whatever it is, there are three wishes and desires merged into one, even if it means going more and more debates of this kind.
Pranay Suresh: Indeed, Obama tried to suggest that the crisis has ended, and the friction has been resolved. America can breathe easily, hopefully. Many things the uncertainty of waiting. But certainly, the next round of the tug between them still lie ahead. Moreover, Obama has insisted his budget would maintain funding for programs that are considered priorities by his administration and the Democrats.
Valentino Vie : If you'd like the government can continue, then there must be an agreement. It seems the opposition between White House and Congress (that has been predicted since Republic won the elections last November) now becomes a reality.
Valentino Vie: IRS will be closed during the shutdown, but the tax deadline April will keep running. If there were companies that tensed when facing an audit, maybe they could breathe a little relieved if there was really any shutdown. hahaha
Pranay Suresh : Will she also turn away from the National Zoo? Maybe you better shutdown your computer access, dude.
Valentino Vie: oh no, I know she likes the cherry blossom very much: http://www.nationalcherryblossomfestival.org/, Le printemps nous est arrivé, ma chère femme. Soyez prêt.
Jan Pepijn Servaas: This could be literacy for you, sweetie. It shows clearly how the president's powers are also limited by political reality.
