Chavez and Assad to strengthen 'Caracas-Damascus axis'
A bilateral, $11million industry and trade fund was among the agreements signed between the two leaders in Venezuela.
Caracas - President Hugo Chavez on Sunday (13 Novembre 2011), denounced Washington and its European allies regadring with Syrian crisis, and insisted that they were preparing the ground to oust President Bashar al-Assad, just as they did to "kill" the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
This Left-wing leader in Latin American country and one of oil producer in the world has become a fierce critic of Western intervention in the Middle East since 2000, when he appeared to support Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein during a visit to Baghdad.
"The United States and its European allies step up their attacks against Syria, and smuggle the terrorists to trigger the riots, bloodshed and death, just as they did in Libya earlier this year," Chavez told supporters in a rally in downtown Caracas. "They tried to bomb not only to overthrow the government of Libya but also to destroy the country and kill Colonel Gaddafi Muamar .... and now they are targeting the Syria, "Chavez said as reported by AFP on Monday morning.
Chavez (57) -- who spoke for about one-half hours in his first open meeting since he underwent the surgery in June for a malignant tumor -- also criticized the Arab League's decision against the Syrian government. On Saturday (12 Nov), The Arab League announced the suspension of Syria, an action that attracted the praise of international community but it sparked the mob attacks against embassies in Damascus.
Chavez previously called Bashar al-Assad and the late leader of Libya as a "brother".
Since March, the government of Bashar has been trying to quell the insurgency, the events which according to UN data has killed more than 3,500 people.
In October 2011, the foreign minister of Venezuela and Cuba led a delegation from the left-wing countries (Latin America) to Syria to meet with Assad, in a support action. After undergoing chemotherapy for several times, most of it was done in Cuba, in October Chavez said he has been free of cancer.

Zakaria: Don't rush to war with Iran
By Fareed Zakaria, CNN Last week, the International Atomic Energy Agency issued its most serious warning about Iran's nuclear program. It argued that Iran seems to have experimented with various technologies that suggest that it was trying to build not just a nuclear program, but a nuclear weapons program.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been welcomed in Caracas by his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chávez. It is Mr Ahmadinejad’s fourth official visit to Venezuela. Ties between the two countries have become increasingly close in recent years. Mr Chávez described Mr Ahmadinejad as an "anti-imperialist gladiator" and the two leaders called each other "brother". The Venezuelan president took Mr Ahmadinejad’s visit as an opportunity to make a fierce attack on Israel. He described the country as "a murderous arm of the Yankee empire". His remarks came in response to Israeli President Shimon Peres' recent prediction that both Mr Ahmadinejad's and Mr Chávez' governments would soon fall, because the Iranian and Venezuelan people had had enough of them. Venezuela is the final stop on Mr Ahmadinejad's tour of Latin America. He previously visited Brazil and Bolivia. In both countries he received support from the government for Iran’s efforts to set up a nuclear power programme.

Occupy Wall Street - Al Jazeera English
My partner said the movement was just a picnic, or just as I said, it was just a graceful motion, too supple for a smart American population. In fact, two months is a long time without much progress. And I was dreaming alone when he was almost asleep, "Darling, the American Spring",... is it feasible to put forward?"
He replied, "No, dear. There are no camels in America, "then he kissed me briefly. A goodnight kiss which means, "It is time for us to not be bound by the same dreams." His right hand tightly embraced my back.
"I am sure we will face this condition with open eyes. But the action is to provoke the ideas and discussion, not to invite the provocation of violence," said the spokesman of OWS, Ed Needham on Tuesday, November 14, 2011.
His breath sounded so smooth on my neck, but when he said his opinion, he was not too much blowing of breath and just said it in one short line. He is my partner. This protest will fail because of the 5 reasons : 1. Takes place at the wrong place, 2. Doesn't have an agenda, 3. Climate change, 4. Money Matters and 5. The public will soon forget this action.
Maybe he's right. About the place, the demonstrators held the action in Lower Manhattan, because they think there's the source of power and the money. In fact, when people talk about "Wall Street," it's actually just a metaphor. Even when JP Morgan was protested, the movement was not done at the corporate offices at 60 Wall St.. They laid it in the uptown area.
Lower Manhattan is the southernmost region on the island of Manhattan, the main island and center of business and government of New York. Lower Manhattan business district formed the core region, one of which includes the Financial District, which is often referred to Wall Street.
Wall Street is the first permanent building of the New York Stock Exchange, the largest of World's stock exchange, according to the market capitalization of listed companies. But Wall Street is also a term used for an influential financial interests in the U.S.. Currently, the market movers are not anywhere near Zuccotti Park. They are in places such as Greenwich, Connecticut, home of the hedge fund that has authority, but why is there no demo in places like that?
These activists do not have a clear agenda. Let's say "Occupy Boston" which is a camp with about 100 tents. All around there are the posters, placards and stickers for "The 9/11 Truthers", "Anarcho-Communist, "Jewish Labor", "Stop Marijuana Law," "Stop the U.S. war against Islam" and others. Some quasi-Buddhist as well set up a sacred space and burn the incense. In fact, on the other hand, there are signs to denounce the new school project in the suburbs. It is difficult to combine all this in a solid plan, because there is no clarity of movement.
Currently the season is still warm and dry. But the rainy season and winter will soon arrive with a low temperature. Temperatures will drop to the lowest average level of 42 degrees for November and 32 degrees for December. The protesters made some big mistakes. The first is they begin to make a move during the summer, so only a few months until the weather will change. They should begin in the spring. So far, they've been lucky, but it will not last long.
They also make a camping event, whereas they can hold a protest march at any time, where people can come, protest and then go home for a hot meal, shower and sleep soundly in their beds themselves. With the protest marches, many people also can take part. How many people can or want to camp in Manhattan for three months? Especially after Halloween. When the cold and the rain really has come, many people will go home, then the opponents of OWS will claim the victory.
No matter how much anger the protesters, it seems the golden rule still will apply. Those who have the funds, will make the rules. 2010 Rules of the Court - the Supreme Court has opened the door to unlimited spending on elections by anyone, anytime, including each company. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, currently there are 156 super political action committees that take advantage of the ruling.
Political operative Mark McKinnon said that the fund increased by approximately U.S. $ 1 billion, most of it is anonymous. McKinnon, who helped run the Bush-Cheney campaign in 2000 and 2004, said the company's expenditures was big enough. And no industry is spending just like the Wall Street. The financial sector is the largest source of campaign contributions, year after year. Politicians suck up the banking of funds because that is where the funds are located. In 2008 the banker gave half a billion dollars for political campaigns, up from U.S. $ 350 million in 2004.
There is still time for one more year before the next election, but they had handed over U.S. $ 97 million for political contributions. That includes U.S. $ 5 million for Mitt Romney and U.S. $ 2.5 million for Barack Obama. How tough then these politicians on Wall Street?
Sure, people are now paying attention to the OWS. But with the emergence of other great news, this action is believed to soon disappear. Many people are optimistic to believe that the Internet's new media world such as the Facebook and Twitter have more power. But it's not significant. Moreover, Nicholas Carr, in a 2010 book "The Shallows" shows in detail how the Web threatens the brain because of its shallowness. With the Internet media, I see the world is more violent, anti-logical, and misinformation. And it paves the way for the propagandist.
Moreover, according to the Ministry of Labor, there are currently 280 thousand public relations managers and specialists in the U.S.. While the number of reporters only 45 thousand. With so many interests, possibly within six months or maybe just six weeks, everyone will forget about the OWS.
OWS slowly turns into a dirty campaign because many are just part of it. There are junkies and homeless people who blend in for food or free offers. Some young people changed it like a party. Not only banner and flag demonstrations, but there were also the used condoms, cigarette boxes and liquor bottles. Young men and women were sleeping together naked in a sleeping bag, on "having fun", even defecated in the police car.
So, it is understandable if ultimately we choose to sleep like this, side by side on bed, in our bedroom.

Brazilian police seize Rio slum
Brazilian police say they have taken control of Rio de Janeiro's biggest shantytown in a crackdown on drug gangs ahead of the 2014 World Cup.
About 3,000 armed police and soldiers took over the Rocinha's largest slum in Brazil. Previously, for decades, the region was controlled by a network of thugs and drug dealers.
Local authorities declared the effort to Rocinha expropriation was carried out before dawn on Sunday (13 Nov) local time. To master the Rocinha, the police took time about 90 minutes.
Rocinha is one of about 1,000 slums in the capital of Brazil, Rio de Janeiro. City of Rio has a population of 6 million people, but a third of residents live in slums.
Public Safety Secretary, Jose Mariano Beltrame, said the success of the operation be a major step to destroy the drug trade in Rio. Moreover, he said, the region has been controlled the drug networks around 30-40 years.
"This is also the largest slum in America, perhaps the world. We restore the dignity and territorial on people," added Beltrame, who also served as the chief of handling program of the Rio's slum.
In raids, the police was supported by army commandos who used two helicopters. Huey helicopters was maneuvering low over the region and tropical rainforest around Rocinha. From the ground, thousands of police were hunting the suspects, including who fled to the forest area. Toward the evening, the police claimed to have arrested four people.
Rocinha residents welcomed the security operation. A villager shouted delighted and gave his support to the police. "Tell the world, we are all not the drug dealers! We're just working and now you come to liberate us, "he said.

Myanmar moving in right direction, freed democracy activist says - CNN.com
Myanmar has made some progress toward political reforms, activist Aung San Suu Kyi said Monday on the one-year anniversary of her release from house arrest.

Suu Kyi positive on Burma reform
Aung San Suu Kyi gives cautious backing to the process of reform under way in Burma, as she marks a year since her release from house arrest.
Burmese democracy leader, Aung San Suu Kyi said Burma's government backed by the military has taken positive steps towards the democracy. In the anniversary of her liberation as house arrest, this Nobel Peace Prize winner praised the dialogue and called for the rule of law in Burma.
To her supporters and journalists in Rangoon, she recalled her release last year as an important event and encouraging. She said her party, the National League for Democracy has called for peace talks with the government backed by the military for over two decades. She said the dialogue recently as an advancement.
She welcomed the government's efforts to free 200 political prisoners last October but those who are still detained should be released. Burma Human Rights Commission issued a statement on Sunday (November 13, 2011) in state media and said there were only 300 political prisoners still in prison and urged so they were released.
Aung San Suu Kyi said that she could confirm at least 525 people were still imprisoned, while human rights groups said there were about 1,700 people. The government refused to acknowledge any political detainees and referred to them as the criminals with political affiliations.
Suu Kyi said the main challenge for Burma in the future is the rule of law and human rights protection. "If the law is not enforced, we will not be sure there are no more political prisoners in the future. Human rights must be protected by law. And in the same way, the investment and economic opportunities should be protected by law. Without such protection, we can't guarantee the continuous improvement."
Aung San Suu Kyi said the National League for Democracy will soon decide whether to register as political party and participate in the upcoming election. Last week, after conferring with the party, the government changed the law and the electoral registration to allow the participation of the party.
If this candicate party took part in the elections, it would give credibility to the government of President Thein Sein, who tried to win the support for Burma to host the ASEAN summit in 2014. ASEAN is expected to formally decide the nomination of Burma in a meeting in Bali, Indonesia this week.
When she was asked whether she supported the nomination, Suu Kyi did not answer directly. "I always say, the more important thing as the Chair of ASEAN is to improve the lives of Burma people, "said Suu Kyi.
I am an admirer of this woman. She's a very strong woman. Have you ever imagined you were arrested in place of detention or exile (concentration camp), for example in the case of house arrest, just because you have ideas or views which are considered against the government or endanger the state power? The form can also be the prisoners of conscience, such as the elimination of free speech. It often happens that the political prisoners are detained without legal defense, through a process of extra-judicial. It may also happen that the political prisoners are arrested and tried through legal defense, but they experience the false criminal accusations, the evidence which has been prepared and unfair trial. Thus, the fact that the person on trial was actually a political prisoner is to be vague.
Things like this usually happens in the situations nationally and internationally, vulnerable to allegations of violations of human rights and restrictions on political dissent. A political prisoner can also be a person who is unfairly not allowed to obtain the guarantee, rejected on the amnesty that should be accepted for inmates with a comparable crime, or subjected to penalties through special powers of the judiciary. Especially in the latter case, the assessment of whether someone is experiencing a political prisoner or not will depend on a subjective political view, or on how to interpret the existing evidence.

P A R T N E R
