He was born on March 10, 1957 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He was the 15th child of 57 brothers (from a few mother and father, Muhammad bin Laden). He was the son of poor farmers who didn't have nothing, until finally he tried his fortune in the housing construction business in Jeddah until eventually succeed as entrepreneur and ultimately sympathetic to the struggle against the oppression of an Islamic state anywhere in the world.
When the Soviet occupation in Afghanistan, he became Mujahideen fighters, as a U.S. partner against the Soviet Union. But the friendship later turned into a very deep hostility, due to the U.S. invasion of Iraq by putting American troops in Saudi Arabia (which is believed by him and his followers) it is equal to pollute the sacred land in the territory of a truly respected by all followers Muslims around the world.
Also, mentioned by many international observers from the Islamic countries that its resistance is caused by the U.S. double standards in treating Islamic countries, compared to the U.S. treatment to Israel and also on the U.S. tough stance in Iraq occupation. This is the forerunner of al-Qaeda terror network who are committed to attacking the entire U.S. military, anywhere, including in countries which become an important partner of the U.S..
Subsequently he established Al-Qaeda network. According to credible information, the role of Russia in supplying intelligence to the system and its navigation was eligible for consideration. This occured as a tactical move from Russia (Soviet Union) to avenge the U.S. that has used him during the Afghanistan invasion.
Through this network of Al-Qaeda, he spread terror to the whole network and U.S. interests around the world, including countries that became the US important and influential partners worldwide. So no wonder, all the countries that depended on the political interests of the United States agreed to strengthen cooperation and to break his terror spreads.
Some Al-Qaeda operations around the world prove that there is a link between Al-Qaeda with the detonation of WTC twin towers in New York. That's sad. The incident known as Black September, due on September 11, 2001. And finally it is commemorated every year in the U.S. specifically, precisely at Ground Zerro, New York.

Jan Pepijn Servaas His wife didn't die, but his courier wife. His son who died was Khalid, not Hamza. His mother-in-law named Nabih al-Ghanem (mother of his first wife named Najwa) died of shock, due to his obituary. Najwa was his cousin who was born in Syria, when she was 17 years old. They are endowed with 11 children. Najwa has left Afghanistan a few days before the attacks of 11 September 2001. Now she settled in Syria. No mention whether Najwa lived with his mother. Until the time I gave this comment, his other three wives are still being interrogated by Pakistani authorities. Amal Ahmad Abdul Fatah (his youngest wife/last wife) was shot in her leg. One of this daughter saw him murdered. No country asks for the permission to repatriate them from Pakistan or to give legal protection to them.
Cisca Zarmansyah Dead is the destiny for human life, Jon. That is absolute. But in what way we meet our death, it could be a differentiator and a note to the world we leave behind.
Valentino Vie Besides al-Zawahiri, there is also Yahya al-Libi (= Hasan Qayid = Yunis al Sahawi), before joins the Al Qaeda, al Libi is a member of Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), which is known to have broad horizons. There's also Khalid Al Habib. But according to some officials of Al Qaeda outside of Egypt, Al Zawahari's rough style makes him less desirable.

He Needs Him
by Cisca Zarmansyah
May 1, 2011, coincided with a Mayday or Labour Day, the public were surprised by the statement of United States President, Barack Obama, that Osama bin Laden has been killed by U.S. special forces. Suddenly the world community, especially in the U.S. and Europe, celebrating the Osama's death like they've won the big battle.
Apart from believe it or not that bin Laden had been killed, there are some interesting findings in the event of his death. The central importance of Osama's death is on Obama. Certainly in view of this incident we must see the previous flow and the prediction after this incident.
In his press conference, he stated that the command of a military operation to invade the existence of the most hunted man in the world since 2001 came directly from him. Interestingly, he also stated that the existence of intelligence information about bin Laden had been received since August 2010. That means, he has kept Osama as a trump card to be used in a particular momentum. Therefore, it is impossible if his command to raid the Osama headquarter issued without reading the global and U.S. domestic situation itself.
Quite simply, the raid operation was done when he was looking for the momentum that has tremendous leverage for his political interests and the U.S. in general. If then he decides to give his command on May 1, 2011, we should see the development of global and U.S. domestic situation during the past few days, until then he decides to declare it.
First, the fall of his popularity after he declared his intention to become president in a second term. Since January 2011, through a White House spokesman Robert Gibbs, Obama said he would again run for U.S. president for next period. However, the latest situation precisely shows his fall of popularity.
The Washington Post (edition of Thursday, March 31, 2011) launched the results of a survey on the U.S. government popularity. Based on data released by the Institute of Public Gallup survey that included 1027 respondents, his popularity would fall under Hillary Clinton's. She has received 66% support, while he only received 54% support. Of course this is very worrying fact for him, who since April 2011 has started to launch a campaign for his nomination of second period.
Second, his campaign promises that have not been realized. In his campaign in 2008, he pledged to close Guantanamo within one year after taking office. However, this promise faces the fierce opposition in Congress and until now the prison is still standing strong in time without limit.
Third, his administration caught up in military operations against Libya, amid its efforts to attack the budget agreement with its rival of Republic in the country. Certainly the military operation is in fact cornering him in the government opposition face. Likewise, the response of international community that condemned U.S. military operations in Libya, which is predicted to increase the unrest situation in the Middle East.
Fourth, he is still not able to lift the U.S. economy, which is still worse due to global economic crisis in 2008. Based on data from a Gallup survey in February 2011, the unemployment rate in the U.S. increased until reaching the 10%, versus 9.8% in January. Economic issues become a huge issue in his administration this period, and tend to be the point of attack from the opposition.
From the barrage of facts during these past few days, he would need an event that was able to significantly leverage his present position.
Why did Osama become the target? Of course we must not forget that the world is entering the early decades of the 21st century with a global terrorist war situation (Global War on Terror) that was raised by President George W. Bush since 2001. The U.S. as the main victim of global terrorism -- of course -- always focuses on this issue. 9/11 then becomes a myth that is haunting the U.S.. Only that event realized the U.S. that the country ever defeated by global terrorism. So, the U.S. later accused Al-Qaeda and its leader Osama bin Laden became the most responsible actor for global terrorism.
Since then, bin Laden continued to haunt the American society. Even a columnist for Time magazine, Michael Crowley said that Osama was equivalent to Adolf Hitler in creating psychological terror against the United States and the European community. Therefore, the death of Osama will impact very strategic for Obama's political resurrection in the presence of U.S. and world community on general.
However, the Obama's strategy that is using the Osama's issue is not something new. President George Bush has done the same thing in 2003. At that time, the situation in Afghanistan and Iraq wars were getting worse. The U.S. image has been very slumped in the community among nations. At the same time, President Bush was also concerned to get ahead in the second period of presidential election in 2004.
Aware of his condition was not favorable for him, President Bush then issued a final stance through the success of U.S. Special Forces to capture alive the most wanted Iraqi President at that time, Saddam Hussein in December 2003. So, this event played a major role in smoothing the way for President Bush for re-election, went on his second period in the 2004 presidential election.
Based on the series of facts, the Osama's death is indeed very fair celebrated by Obama and his team. Without this, it seems Obama won't be easy to face the upcoming 2012 presidential election.
Yes, Obama also needs Osama.

Jan Pepijn Servaas : Now there is a sense of insecurity in Pakistan. It is not the good time to show the American victory. But if it is handled properly, bin Laden's death can be a turning point for relations between the two countries becomes erratic. This can be an opportunity to increase the transparency in their relations as the operating procedures are explained, and it also becomes a reminder that despite the policy priority of both allies to this region is different, but they can complement each other. And if his death helps the U.S. plans to withdraw from Afghanistan, it also can be a good time for the emergence of an unusual collaboration between Washington and Islamabad.
