Cisca Zarmansyah : An embarrassing case ensnared President of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Dominique Strauss-Kahn.
Strauss, who was also staying as a candidate for the French president was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulted a hotel maid.
This 62-year-old man was arrested at JFK International Airport when he was taken off an Air France plane on Saturday afternoon (14/5) local time. Officers who caught him from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, then he was handed over to the New York Police Department. His lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, did not answer the Associated Press questions by telephone or electronic mail.
France became an uproar with his arrest news, it remained in alert situations. Some observers have questioned the possibility of such incidents became part of a slander campaign being waged by the incumbent President Nicolas Sarkozy, his main rival in upcoming presidential elections. The suspicion was expressed together with the data a number of polls showed that Sarkozy's increasingly unpopular.
