Surviving Alone in Alaska. Published on Apr 25, 2012 by VICE :: Heimo Korth is the last man standing in 19 million acres of Alaskan wilderness. His neighbors are polar bears and caribous. Say good bye to civilization and see how they do it in the arctic circle on the last frontier in America.

In 1980, Jimmy Carter established the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in the Alaskan Interior, cutting off 19 million acres of prime boreal wilderness from the mitts of fur trappers, oil tycoons, and would-be lodge owners alike. Only six families of white settlers were grandfathered in and allowed to keep cabins in the refuge—of them, only one still stays there year-round living off the land. His name is Heimo Korth, and he is basically the Omega Man of Americas Final Frontier. || Had Been Published by VBSdotTV on Mar 11, 2010  || ► Alaska: Great Deal on 'The Great Land'. Uploaded on Dec 26, 2010 by RussiaToday :: It was discovered in 1741 and used to be a part of Russia. In 1867, after lengthy negotiations, Alaska was sold to the United States for the price of $7.2 million. It was called a "box of ice", a "polar bear garden" and Walrussia. But in the language of its indigenous peoples, the word Alaska means The Great Land.

Cancer Villages - China. Published on Jun 6, 2012 by journeymanpictures. The Chinese government claims it's making serious efforts to clean up pollution. But as this horrifying report shows, much of their 'success' has involved simply moving their toxic industries out of sight.

"It's risky, but we have no other choice: We only have this river," Wu Zhuliang tell us from his remote farm in South Western China. For Wu and his family their reliance on the river, which runs yellow with pollution, has had terrible consequences. They buried his son just over a month ago. He had been diagnosed with two types of cancer, Leukaemia and Thymoma, and had been in so much pain he said to his mother, "open the window and I'll jump out". The water from Wu's river was found to have levels of chromium, a known carcinogen, "200 times higher than the national standard". Ma Tianjie from Greenpeace tells us it's so toxic that, "simply touching the water, it could make your skin itchy. It's a very, very serious problem." All across rural China the same stories abound. The government is cleaning up the cities, but often the most toxic industries are simply moved to rural areas where regulations are lax. Chinese farmers are now four times more likely to die from liver cancer than the global average. "The government is trying to find a way to get rid of this huge pile of historically accumulated waste but they are struggling." | A Film By SBS - Distributed By Journeyman Pictures on June 2012 :: China warns foreigners to stop monitoring its pollution

The Alliance approved the reinforcements last month, after Ankara requested support. NATO claims the move is to help defend its member from the conflict in Syria. But Moscow said the deployment will only serve to escalate tension in the region. Germany and the Netherlands are preparing to ship six more Patriot batteries early next week, they'll be operational by the end of January. However, Jeremy Salt, a Middle Eastern history and politics professor from Bilkent University says NATO is actually now realizing who it's supporting, and losing its appetite for direct action in Syria.

Hitler 'prayer' statue in former Warsaw Ghetto 'insults the Nazis' victims' – Polish rabbi

Evidence of What The Nazis Did To The Jews In Warsaw / Video. Uploaded on Jan 27, 2008 by rosaryfilms :: Evidence of What The Nazis Did To The Jews In Warsaw / Video. The Warsaw Ghetto was the largest of the Jewish ghettos established by Nazi Germany in Warsaw, former capital of Poland in the General Government during the Holocaust in World War II. Primary materials, footage and photographs shot by the Nazis themselves, and the narrator was a survivor of the ghetto. The Warsaw Ghetto was the largest of the Jewish ghettos established by Nazi Germany in Warsaw, former capital of Poland in the General Government during the Holocaust in World War II. Between 1941 and 1943, starvation, disease and deportations to concentration camps and extermination camps dropped the population of the ghetto from an estimated 450,000 to approximately 70,000. In 1943 the Warsaw Ghetto was the scene of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, the first urban mass rebellion against the Nazi occupation of Europe. The Warsaw Ghetto was established by the German Governor-General Hans Frank on October 16, 1940. At this time, the population of the Ghetto was estimated to be 440,000 people, about 37% of the population of Warsaw. However, the size of the Ghetto was about 4.5% of the size of Warsaw. Nazis then closed off the Warsaw Ghetto from the outside world on November 16, 1940, building a wall with armed guards. During the next year and a half, thousands of the Polish Jews as well as some Romani people from smaller cities and the countryside were brought into the Ghetto, while diseases (especially typhoid) and starvation kept the inhabitants at about the same number. Average food rations in 1941 for Jews in Warsaw were limited to 253 kcal, compared to 2,325 kcal for gentile Poles and 5,613 kcal for German people. The life in the ghetto was chronicled by the Oyneg Shabbos group. In 1942 Polish resistance fighter Jan Karski reported to the Western governments on the situation in the Ghetto and on the extermination camps. Round-up of residents of the Ghetto, January 1943. Over 100,000 of the Ghetto's residents died due to rampant disease or starvation, as well as random killings, even before the Nazis began massive deportations of the inhabitants from the Ghetto's Umschlagplatz to the Treblinka extermination camp during Operation Reinhard. Between Tisha B'Av, July 23, 1942, and Yom Kippur, September 21, 1942, about 254,000 Ghetto residents were sent to Treblinka and murdered there. By the end of 1942, it was clear that the deportations were to their deaths, and many of the remaining Jews decided to fight. On the eve of WW2 the Jewish population in Warsaw numbered 337,000, about 29% of the total population of the city, this figure rose to 445,000 by March 1941. Early September 1939 following the German invasion of Poland on 31 August 1939, the German forces reached the southern and western parts of the city on 8 and 9 September 1939. Within a few days they had surrounded the city from all sides, Warsaw bravely stood up to the German siege for 3 weeks, with air attacks and artillery shelling causing heavy damage and significant loss of life. As a result of the constant bombardments from the air and by artillery fire, there was a great exodus from the city. Warsaw's mayor Stefan Starzynski appointed Adam Czerniakow as Chairman of the Jewish Council on 23 September 1939. From the first days of the occupation the Jews were subjected to attacks and discrimination, such as being driven from food lines, seized for forced labour and assaults on religious Jews wearing their traditional garbs. Teachers, craftsman, professionals, members of welfare and cultural institutions lost their positions, without any compensation, with little or no prospect of obtaining similar positions. Listening Post - Blowing the whistle on Obama's America. Published on Jan 5, 2013 :: On the campaign trail four years ago, US presidential candidate Barack Obama shared his views on whistleblowers. He said: "Often the best source of information about waste, fraud and abuse in government is a government employee committed to public integrity, willing to speak out. Such acts of courage and patriotism should be encouraged rather than stifled."

As president, the reality has been very different. During his first term in office, six whistleblowers have been charged under the Espionage Act for allegedly mishandling classified information. That is twice as many as all previous presidents combined.  In the first half of this full edition special, we blow the whistle on President Obama's America.

Highlighting state corruption through satire. Published on Jan 5, 2013 :: They are insightful, cheeky and sometimes simply rude - but a British artist says his paintings highlight political corruption. Kaya Mar takes the unconventional approach of displaying his works outside seats of power. What is unusual about Kaya Mar's satirical approach is that he takes his work to where the politicians and media are, to keep them honest. He can be found at Westminster, pronouncing on the government's economic policies; or outside the Royal Courts of Justice. Al Jazeera's Laurence Lee reports from London.

The satellite revolving 36 thousand kilometers above earth may only have an operating life of 15 years or so, but it will join hundreds of dead satellites which are spinning in graveyard orbits.
