I have the best readers! And here's proof: you all helped build an awesome hospital in Niger that patches up women and girls who have suffered just about the worst thing that can happen to a person: an obstetric fistula. Help spread the word about these women.

On Mother's Day, let's celebrate a fistula hospital that you readers helped build, and the many African women whose lives it will surely save.

"Few Americans know that Mother's Day was initially suggested by two peace-minded mothers, Julia Ward Howe, a 19th century anti-slavery activist and suffragette, and Anna Reeves Jarvis, mother of eleven, who influenced Howe and had asked her fellow Appalachian townspeople, badly polarized by the Civil War, to remain neutral and help nurse the wounded troops of both sides."

Astrid Adrienne :: Mother's Day in United States

The small child sang. The mother outstretched on the low bed with anguish moaned, -- fair Form pain should possess not long. For, ever nigher, Death hovered around her head: I hearkened there this moan, and heard even there that song.

The child was but five years, and, close to the lattice, aye. Made a sweet noise with games and with his laughter bright; And the wan mother, aside this being the livelong day. Carolling joyously, coughed hoarsely all the night.

The mother went to sleep among them that sleep away; And the blithe little lad began anew to sing. Sorrow is like a fruit: God doth not therewith weigh. Earthward the branch strong yet but for the blossoming.

"NATO may have now been expanded to include the republics of ex-Soviet Georgia if Russia did not invade in 2008 to defend a rebel territory", said Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on... ( I forget the date...)

Moscow strongly opposed Western military alliance's expansion to include countries of the former Soviet republics such as Georgia and Ukraine, reported Reuters. (Again, I forget the date)

NATO has promised Georgia will eventually become members at their summit in 2008, but the enthusiasm was weakened after a brief war that year, when Russian troops invaded Georgia to protect the separatist regions of South Ossetia.

"If you don't have certainty in 2008, the geopolitical situation will be different now," Medvedev said in a statement to the troops at a base in Vladikavkaz, just north of Georgia's border. "And a number of countries are seeking to put in an alliance that may now become part of it (NATO)," he added.

Kremlin recognized the independence of separatist regions of Georgia was supported by Moscow, South Ossetia and Abkhazia, on August 26 in 2008, several weeks after Russian troops broke the military efforts of Georgia to control South Ossetia again.

Russia's relations with the West was deteriorated after the country's brief war with Georgia. Georgia declared, the war and Moscow's recognition of the regions as independent states was the annexation of the territory. On August 27, 2009, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev confirmed that Moscow would never cancel its decision to recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent states from Georgia.

Russian troops entered Georgia to break Georgia's military effort to control South Ossetia again on 7-8 August 2008. Five-day war in August erupted when Tbilisi tried to restore its power by force in South Ossetia region that secede from Georgia in 1992, after the collapse of Soviet Union.

Georgia and Russia remain at odds after a brief war between them in 2008.

South Ossetia and Abkhazia secede from Georgia in the early 1990s. Both the separatist region relied almost entirely on Russia for financial aid, military and diplomatic.

Georgia still claims sovereignty over the region and it gets support from the West.

Moscow's recognition of independence for the region sparked condemnation from Georgia and many Western countries.

Russia formalized its recognition of the independence South Ossetia and Abkhazia on January 16, 2009 when President Dmitry Medvedev received ambassadors of their first to be coupled parallel to the ambassadors of NATO member states.

Nicaragua was the first country after Russia to give "full recognition" to the republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia as " "the new members of independent nations community in the world". Venezuela on 10 September 2009 also gave its full recognition of the independence of Georgia's two separatist regions. Nauru --- a small and oval-shaped island in the western Pacific Ocean, 42 kilometres south of the Equator --- was following in the Russia's footsteps and recognized the two republics as independent states.

Astrid Adrienne : Efforts to establish the peace in Afghanistan is not easy. Militant groups continue to hamper the peace efforts and the establishment of government/broad-based unity by doing the violence acts. One of the Taliban frontman -- Agha Jan Motasim-- acknowledged the many hard-line factions within the Taliban. Motasim which aggressively promoted the global peace in the country almost became the victim of group. Meanwhile, Maulvi Arsala Rahmani has been shot dead in Kabul, became the attack's target. The Rahmani's killingwas the blow to U.S. efforts to bring peace to the country. Effort to end the war in Afghanistan that has lasted for a decade was threatened in vain.

Astrid Adrienne : Related News :: Jan Pepijn Servaas commented on - Adriaan Zef's link on my wall, then I saved it on my note.

North Korea advised their citizens to use their pets as an early warning system for earthquakes. The announcement was announced after the earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan last year. Although the government in Pyongyang has been socialized to citizens associated with these technologies, the government through the media still urged residents to always have the pet. Strange behavior of pets will be relatively accurate early warning system. Rodong Sinmun daily edition of ...  (...ah, I kind of forgot...) that is Juche republic's newspapers/a single party in power in the communist state warned that all citizens should be wary when they heard or saw a dog barking incessantly. And now, the cat may also be able to do the same thing. There is one thing in common between them : the instinct.

Another sign is when the cows refuse to eat, or horses are kept on spinning. North Korean authorities to assess the instinct of animals is more accurate than other early warning systems. Reliability of animal behavior in predicting earthquakes is worth considering. This had been proven on a large tsunami of about 8 years ago. National Geographic reported, when the tsunami struck the Indian Ocean in 2004, many species had survived because they managed to escape before the disaster. Read more here.*****

"Yesterday’s South African township dwellers can tell you about today's life in the Occupied Territories. More than an emergency is needed to get to a hospital; less than a crime earns a trip to jail. If apartheid ended, so can the occupation. But the moral force and international pressure will have to be just as determined. The current divestment effort is the first, though certainly not the only, necessary move in that direction." - Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Nobel Peace Prize laureate for his work against apartheid in South Africa

Fairuz Azalia : Salamou alaykoum, C. Thank you for replying to my email, responding well to my mind and tagging me in your notes. Clicking on your profile is like entering a mini library of your version.

Lakshmi Lavanya : You're not only beautiful, but you also have a sense of humor, high artistic and one thing I admire about you (though I could never be you) is that you're also very interested in politics. Miss nerds, you have a global opera inside you. Bella Ciao!

"Thank you for your perception! I like your romantic side, even if I do not always comment and I'm glad that you're in my circle of friends."
(Courtesies by: Wolfgang A. Gerhardt)

Wolfgang A.Gerhardt : May be you like this Sunday collage

Cisca Zarmansyah : Before today, there never was a person doing this to me. You create a simple matter to look special. This is a special thing for me.

Cisca Zarmansyah : Thank you. I love it. I love you, my friend.

CieL- FreYa Ceastle : Hmm, he's so nice...

"I am me.
In all the world,
there is no one else exactly like me.
Everything that comes out of me
is authentically mine,
because I alone chose it --
I own everything about me:
my body,
my feelings,
my mouth,
my voice,
all my actions,
whether they be to others or myself.
I own my fantasies,
my dreams,
my hopes,
my fears.
I own my triumphs and successes,
all my failures and mistakes.
Because I own all of me,
I can become intimately acquainted with me.
By so doing,
I can love me
and be friendly with all my parts.
I know there are aspects about myself that puzzle me,
and other aspects that I do not know
-- but as long as I am friendly
and loving to myself,
I can courageously and hopefully
look for solutions
to the puzzles and ways
to find out more about me.
However I look and sound,
whatever I say and do,
and whatever I think and feel at a given moment in time
is authentically me.
If later some parts of how I looked,
sounded,
thought,
and felt
turn out to be unfitting,
I can discard that which is unfitting,
keep the rest,
and invent something new
for that which I discarded.
I can see,
hear,
feel,
think,
say, and do.
I have the tools to survive,
to be close to others,
to be productive,
and to make sense
and order out of the world of people
and things outside of me.
I own me,
and therefore,
I can engineer me.
I am me,
and I am okay."
