The Netherlands was the first country to approve gay marriage back in 2001, and now the current issue facing the Dutch Parliament is whether to give legal rights to three or more parents of one child.

Malian artists sing for peace. Published on Feb 6, 2013 :: Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara brought together 37 of Mali's biggest artists to sing a song for peace in the country. She says the song calls for the country's population to "wake up" to the threat imposed by Islamist extremists who have tried to ban music in the country's north.

Hezbollah suspected in Bulgaria bus bombing. Published on Feb 5, 2013 :: Bulgaria has linked the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah to a bus bombing last July that killed five Israeli tourists. Tsvetan Tsevtnov, Bulgarian interior minister, said on Tuesday that two of the suspects linked to the bombing had entered the country respectively with an Australian and a Canadian passport. Al Jazeera's Nadim Baba reports.



US memo 'justifies' drone killings. Published on Feb 5, 2013 :: The Obama administration has been facing increasing questions about the legality of using drones to target people on foreign soil. Now a memo has been leaked to the media, which attempts to justify the practice. Al Jazeera's White House correspondent Patty Culhane reports from Washington.



War on Web: UK govt to use 'black box' spy devices to monitor internet. Published on Feb 6, 2013 The UK government is said to be considering the use of special 'black boxes' - to record people's internet activities - all in the name of national security. But the plans have got privacy advocates up in arms. Emma Carr, the deputy director of Big Brother Watch organisation, says the proposal must be further studied before being applied.



Warnings of N Korea's nuclear developments. Published on Feb 5, 2013 :: North Korea has threatened to take unspecified stronger measures in response to recent international sanctions after it successfully launched a satellite into space in December. Pyongyang warns the action could exceed a promised nuclear test, which it had said would target its "enemy", the United States. The heightened rhetoric comes as a US scientist says North Korea could be close to a nuclear weapons breakthrough. Al Jazeera's Harry Fawcett reports from Seoul.


'Mali a foothold for 21st century resource wars in Africa'. Published on Feb 6, 2013 The French military, assisted by local militia, has taken the city of Kidal - the last major city still controlled by Islamist militants. Meanwhile, warplanes have continued striking the remaining militant hideouts in the far north of the country. The French foreign minister has hinted that the operation may be over as early as March. But while the advance has been swift, the conflict is already taking its toll on the civilians. Geopolitical analyst Patrick Henningsen believes the war on terror is just a pretext used by some powers to tighten its grip on Africa.
