Narcissus

Narcissus fell in love with himself and soon died. At the age of 15, the handsome-faced child was taken by his mother to Tiresias, the seer. In Metamorphosis, Ovid's poem composed around Rome in the 4th century BC, described that blind fortune teller was saying something strange, "If this child does not know himself, he will live a long life."

Furthermore, Narcissus became a grown man. Women and men in love with her, but he did not care about any of them, including the angel of the earth who lived in the jungle and river. One of them was Echo. One day, she saw Narcissus hunting through the fields. Echo was smitten. She followed him wherever he went by stealth. Her love was so burning, like a fire burning the sulfur, but she could only silence. She could not seduce. The angel has been cursed by a goddess. Echo could not talk, she was just able to repeat the other person's voice.

And that was what happened when Narcissus got lost. Narcissus shouted, "Who's around here?". In the bush, Gema was silent, repeating, "Around here?". There's no other word. Whenever Narcissus spoke, only his echo answered. Finally, he called out, "Come, come here, two of us!".

"Two of us!" Echo squealing happily, because it was only the most appropriate sentence to her heart. She came out of the bushes then suddenly embraced Narcissus, but Narcissus avoided Echo. He immediately went away. The angel was embarrassed, sad. Finally she decided to wander away. Her body was so very thin. As narrated in Metamorphosis, her bones became stones. Echo only lived as a lagging voice, a voice that couldn't express its own desires.

Indeed, Narcissus had caused many broken hearts. That was why the goddess Nemesis intended to punish him. When hunting, the handsome man steps directed to a clear trough, surrounded by moss and soft grass. Overheating by the trip and plagued by thirst, Narcissus bowed his face toward the water, wanted to take the water. But when he gazed into the trough, there was "another thirst awakened". A view of the skyline! He was amazed and fell in love with what he saw: a very handsome face. He kissed the shadow of it, then he put his hand into the water. Of course, nothing could be touched.

But Narcissus was still staring. He felt the shadow wanted to be kissed, wanted to get a hug, and always be with him. When he smiled, the shadow was also smiling. When he cried, a shadow on the water's surface was also crying.
"Moron! Why do you try to catch a passing shadow in vain? What you're looking for is not exist anywhere. What you see is just a reflective shadow. There's no part of you in it. It comes to live with you, go with you, if you can go!".
Narcissus was gradually conscious: he -- who in love to himself -- did not know what to do. In desperation, his tears dripping. His tears moving the lake's surface. The shadow disappeared. He felt lost. Waiting. Staring. In a state of very tired, he was lying on the edge of the trough. There his death came, closed his beautiful eyes forever.

And that's exactly as predicted by Tiresias, the fortune teller: when the handsome young man recognizes himself, his age will not be long.

Now, 2000 years later, women, men, nation, religion, and who knows what else, should listen to this story. "Recognize yourself" ("I am him," Narcissus said to himself when looking at his shadow), has a serious illusion.

But, Narcissism has infiltrated into us, often -- in the vague expression of vague -- we feel we have managed to find the "identity", or we want to get it while we always just look at us. Or, to use the words of Ovid on Narcissus : We desire ourselves.

Should we say, in selfie age, in an age when people perpetuate their faces, that narcissism is a short walk to various death? Faces that we see in the mirror (and on camera) are just misleading pictures. Since the boy saw himself there -- in the "mirror stage" -- according to Lacan's psychoanalysis he just actually --- to repeat sentences in Metamorphosis --- captured "passing shadow". Its perspective is "useless". A shape reflected by the glass is actually does not save a part of ourselves.

But what can I say. Since childhood we are shaped by convention, particularly in language and the temporary need to confirm about "me" and "you". There are subjects. There are  objects. We also build the world based on illusion. We forget that there's -- in Lacan's words -- "the shadows of ego to move on." We forget, we can identify something just because there's "who-else",  "not-me". "Dog" is known as the "dog" because the dog is not "cat", not "deer ", not "tiger ". No definition.

In other words, the dog and I get in shape because we are not alone. Narcissism of identity, in every woman, man, nation, religion, and "I", whatever, forget about this one: Tragedy began when Narcissus was alone on the edge of the lake, even he did not want to be accompanied by Echo.

News Headlines (540) 1 August - 31 August 2015

ONLINE TODAY

1 August 2015 : By all appearances this is a day made in heaven to play, party and perform. Normally, you're not the shy one and would be the first to jump on stage and entertain the crowd. However, you may be in a more serious mood now and can't seem to snap out of it. Stop worrying about what might go wrong. If you continue to focus on the negative, you'll inadvertently bring it about. Instead of fretting that you may squander this opportunity for fun, just accept the cosmic energy as it is. You can't help but do what's right for you if you go with the flow.

2 August 2015 : Let your freak flag fly and flirt like there's no tomorrow as mischievous Mercury trines uninhibited Uranus in your sign. Although social obligations and professional responsibilities continue to demand a significant portion of your attention, you have a sweet opportunity to reconnect with the innocence of romance today. A dream may be a wish your heart makes, but if you don't take a leap of faith and act on a fantasy, it won't stand a chance of coming true.

3 August 2015 : You wake up believing you can do anything today, but reality has a different tale to tell. Oddly enough, you won't likely be surprised if you run into an obstacle. It's as if your inner parent warned you to be more practical and you weren't willing to listen. Thankfully, it's not too late to change your ways. A more cautious approach to reaching your goals will take you further than running on enthusiasm. The trick to getting something accomplished now is honoring the opposite messages at play.

4 August 2015 : You're able to step directly into the flow of events today, even if you don't know what you're doing. The lovely Venus-Jupiter conjunction blesses your 5th House of Fun and Games, making it nearly impossible to miss the beneficial effects of this cosmic gift. Although you can inspire others with your soaring optimism, you may try to take the everything-is-wonderful approach too far. An unexpected twist of fate might be a wake-up call from your future, reminding you to keep everything in proper perspective. When life hands you lemonade, you should be grateful and drink it.

5 August 2015 : You might not easily accept the fact that you can't have everything you want now. Satisfaction grows even more elusive if you expect others to fulfill your needs. Anger can sneak into the equation if you're not careful today. But don't toss blame around if you're feeling frustrated; striking out against someone else only pushes them away. Instead, hard work or strenuous exercise is a healthier outlet for your bottled-up tension. You'll be a lot more fun to be around if you're not ready to explode at any given moment. Breathe; this too shall pass.

6 August 2015 : You're ready to settle down and put your nose to the grindstone as taskmaster Saturn pushes your key planet Mars into action. Nevertheless, it's challenging to limit unnecessary distractions as one temptation appears after another. But rather than wasting time pursuing transient pleasure, be responsible and focus on the specific projects in front of you now. Committing to a strict schedule is required today if you want to reach your goals.

7 August 2015 : You may have taken on one too many responsibilities but you're still so confident that you are ready to place even more on your to-do list today. Unfortunately, you could spend an inordinate amount of energy simply trying to fulfill your obligations, leaving you little time left to relax. But don't wait until the end of the day to wish you had less to complete. Judiciously cutting back on your activities sets healthy limits right from the get-go, enabling you to successfully balance work with play.

8 August 2015 : A never-ending string of distractions makes for an extremely busy day. But rather than growing tired from the steady barrage of activity, all the twists and turns just seem to make your life more interesting. Nevertheless, it's wise to delay important decisions because your judgment could be slightly impaired now. Relax and enjoy the unplanned events this weekend, even if your previous plans unravel in the process. Sometimes magic hides behind chaos.

9 August 2015 : Theoretically, you should be able to find plenty of time to rest today. However, you have chores to finish and it seems that the faster you go now, the less you accomplish. Nevertheless, awareness is the key to change. Once you understand the underlying dynamic, you can slow down your external response to emotional news even if you have an immediate reaction. Don't over-commit by putting too much on your calendar when the universe is telling you to relax.

10 August 2015 : Don't fall victim to believing that you can do everything today. You may be shocked when you realize you've been so busy lately putting out fires that you forgot to do something that was quite important. Hopefully, you discover your omission early enough in the day to remedy the situation before things grow out of hand. Make a conscious decision to reassess your priorities prior to running into trouble. With a little forethought and discretion you can use this cosmic burst of energy to your advantage.

11 August 2015 : Establishing healthy habits over the months ahead produces benefits that can last a lifetime. Patterns you thought could never be broken seem easy to change now that auspicious Jupiter is rocking your 6th House of Daily Routine. There's no reason to delay improving your lifestyle since you must be at your optimum health to manage all the work ahead. Make the necessary modifications and you'll have the energy in reserve when you need it down the road. Clean living does a body good.

12 August 2015 : You are highly motivated to find ways to express the colorful images running through your mind today. Nevertheless, your current desire to escape from reality makes it tough to follow through with your chores because you would rather be daydreaming more than anything else. It can be quite complicated to channel this surreal energy when issues from your subconscious float to the surface. Thankfully, quietly attending to your daily chores and fulfilling your obligations first frees you up to explore your imagination later on. Work now, wander in wonderland later.

13 August 2015 : Curbing your enthusiasm sounds like a smart strategy today, but your excitement will probably overtake your common sense. Naturally, it's not wise to express everything you feel because some desires are better kept to yourself. You could stir up a hornet's nest if you broadcast your needs to everyone before reassessing the ramifications of your actions. Luckily, you still may be able to stretch the envelope as long as you stay aware of the larger circumstances and don't push your luck too far.

14 August 2015 : You can't help but express what's in your heart today, but it's crucial to also make time to bask in the appreciation of your peers. Today's outgoing Leo New Moon in your 5th House of Fun and Games is your ticket to the party, especially if you already have something special on your calendar. You know the best way to turn work into play and might try to bring others along on your little joyride. However, you don't have to lead the parade if you secretly prefer to march to your own drummer; in fact, everyone admires you most when you remain true to yourself.

15 August 2015 : Summertime fun and games will have to wait until you have finished your chores, even if you're sorely tempted to set your responsibilities aside today. Although a happy-go-lucky Sun-Venus conjunction sparkles and shines in your 5th House of Spontaneity, stern Saturn's dominating presence won't take no for an answer. You know the drill: do whatever is required first and then you'll be able to chase pleasurable pursuits to your heart's content.

16 August 2015 : You're intent on doing an excellent job on whatever projects you choose to tackle today. Your current willingness to put in the extra time inspires others to appreciate you even more. You may be motivated on your own, but being noticed certainly doesn't hurt. Just don't let the compliments swell your head; hard work all but ensures your success as long as you don't expect more than you deserve.

17 August 2015 : It's stressful trying to determine how much to reveal when discussing your current predicament at work. It helps if you have a concrete plan in mind, but you are likely to misjudge the size of the task anyhow. From a practical standpoint, you don't have sufficient time to go back and start over. Instead, keep inching your way forward and do the best you can to cross things off your list. The more you take care of today, the easier your workload will be tomorrow.

18 August 2015 : You don't know whether you should be feeling happy or sad today. You thrive when things are popping, but the stress level may be a bit much even for you hot-to-trot Aries. However, you don't want to let up on the gas now as you drive for power and success. Although people seem to thwart your efforts, you could inadvertently be the one blocking your own progress. You can be overbearing when you're certain about your destination, but your intensity might be too much for others to handle. A lighter touch on your part gives everyone the room to choose their own level of participation.

19 August 2015 : Nearly anything goes today while the urgency of your feelings pushes you closer to a breaking point. You might believe that unnecessary rules of etiquette are restraining your desires, making you feel more impulsive about expressing what you want. Experimenting with new dance steps is exhilarating as long as you don't completely ignore the rhythm of the music. Step outside of the box now, but make sure you can find your way back home. A touch of moderation ultimately saves you from yourself.

20 August 2015 : There is an obvious conflict between your long-term relationship goals and your present responsibilities. Even if you can visualize a clear path to your ideal future, initiating action may need to be delayed for a while longer. Create a new schedule for the day that empowers you to make the best of the current situation while you're still working out the logistics that involve someone else. Get out of your head and into your heart.

21 August 2015 : There are more choices than you see at first glance as you encounter an unexpected roadblock on your path. Naturally, you can run directly into the trouble, attempting to power your way through it. The good news is you appear like a superhero if this impulsive tactic works. But a headstrong attack could be foolhardy today and only lead to greater frustration. Other options manifest once you stop to understand the lessons of the current situation. Luckily, everything can magically fall into place when you finally recognize the truth that you're the only thing standing in your way.

22 August 2015 : Although your day begins with high expectations, a series of unsettling events can hijack your agenda and diminish your productivity. Fortunately, you're able to prevent a downward spiral by concentrating on fulfilling your obligations rather than getting entangled in dramas that don't directly concern you. Surprisingly, you don't have to fix everything that seems to go wrong. Problems should being to resolve once the Moon enters lighthearted Sagittarius later in the day and everyone starts to take themselves a little less seriously.

23 August 2015 : All the big ideas in the world aren't a viable substitute for one that actually works. However, the difference between a strategy that succeeds and one that fails might be in the execution rather than in the plan, itself. Following through on your promises is top priority while the conscientious Virgo Sun makes its month-long trek through your 6th House of Duty. Integrity counts; put your lofty dreams on a shelf for a while and attend to the things that matter most.

24 August 2015 : You probably don't realize just how close you are to achieving your dreams, even if you assume everything will work out in the end. You have sufficient strength to face a tough issue as your unflagging optimism overrides any negativity today, empowering you to take risks and do great things. But the bad news is how far from reality you might wander now if given the chance. Keep in mind that you do your best work if you can see the amazing potential without losing your objectivity. In the long run, authenticity is your friend.

25 August 2015 : You're known for being quick to react when something goes awry and you don't always take the time to consider anyone else's perspective. However, today's traditional Capricorn Moon is moving through your 10th House of Public Responsibility, requiring you to be on your best behavior. Proceed carefully instead of shooting from the hip; a well-aimed intention clears the path for your direct action. Trust your intuition; paradoxically, it will show you the most practical course of action now, which is exactly what you need.

26 August 2015 : It's more important than ever to establish a productive daily routine and stick to it while the auspicious Sun-Jupiter conjunction highlights your 6th House of Habits. However, you can't help but get swept up in circumstances that start out pleasurable but might quickly grow out of control. It's perfectly fine to enjoy yourself today, but the fleeting satisfaction of excessive indulgence could ultimately interfere with the real work at hand. Honoring reasonable limits is your ticket to success.

27 August 2015 : You are preoccupied with relationship issues that, ironically, grow less complicated as soon as you stop to contemplate your actions. However, if all signs point to go, you might not bother to slow down long enough to notice where you are likely to run into trouble. Taking a more proactive approach by listening to everyone's feelings enables you to gain a clear view of the road ahead. Communication is a two-way street.

28 August 2015 : Your dreams about love are likely to be more interesting now than the actual events in your everyday life, magnifying your awareness of what you are lacking in the romance department. Your internal chatter is loud, tempting you to share your current desires with others. Nevertheless, it may be wiser to keep your running commentary to yourself because you can't foresee someone's reaction. Some things are better left unexpressed; it's best to face the fact that today's fantasies simply might be more enjoyable than anything you can conjure up in the real world.

29 August 2015 : You're planning to head out on a vision quest while the psychic Pisces Full Moon brightens your 12th House of Spirituality. However, you might have to delay your fleeting flights of fancy so you can finish up the chores that are currently on your calendar. Surprisingly, even the most boring routine holds the potential for magic today. It's not about what you're doing in the real world now; it's about your newly found ability to travel in time and space. Simultaneously working both ends of the spectrum -- the cosmic and the mundane -- brings the greatest emotional satisfaction.

30 August 2015 : Taking your inner child out for ice cream today offers you an unexpected opportunity to mend a past wound. Reconnecting with your innocence gives your creativity a chance to soar to new heights. Your simple intention might be to have fun, but the activation of old memories fixes something you didn't even know was broken. There are very few sorrows that cannot be healed by the unrelenting power of love if you're willing to open your heart and let it in.

31 August 2015 : You want to swoop in and heroically save the day as you negotiate for the common good. Nevertheless, you're not fully prepared to set aside your personal needs now that the sensitive Moon is hanging out in your sign. Walking the fine line between fighting for a cause and honoring your own priorities is your number one challenge today. No one expects you to drop everything, but taking one for the team demonstrates the generosity of your heart and the depth of your character.

ENTERTAINMENT : 10 Women You Won't Believe Exist. Women alone are amazing creatures. They have the ability to bring new life into the world with their bodies as well as be caregivers, activists, educators, and queens of the business world and still go home and take care of a family at the end of the day. Women have certainly been through a lot in the last century from suffrage and fighting to equal pay in the working world that’s dominated by men, women couldn’t be prouder of themselves. These days, women are fighting for more control of their bodies and their right to choose what to do with their lives. Of course there are more traditional views that still dominate today’s society on how women should look and act. The media has shown women what their standards are when it comes to beauty and how their bodies should look.

When women aren't fighting equal rights, many of them are dealing with their own battles within themselves for self-acceptance and for the right to feel beautiful. If a woman doesn't fit into the conventional definition of beauty, she may find herself being oppressed and ridiculed by her peers, especially women. That is not only mean, but also counter-productive to what women could accomplish if they set their minds to it.

This video contains a list of ten women that you won't believe exist. Whether they are brilliant people, or they physically defy the laws of physics and prove that beauty comes in all forms, these women have made headlines and have made valid contributions to society and the community around them.

One woman named Cathie Jung has been working for 12 years in hopes of achieving attention for her body. Over the course of these 12 years, Cathie has been wearing a corset and gradually shrinking her waistline. Today, her waist is about 15 inches in circumference, breaking world records for the tiniest waist. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Mikel Ruffinelli has hips with a circumference of 8 feet. After Mikel gave birth to her first child, her hips expanded and grew. With each child she birthed, her hips continued to grow. She eats about 5,000 calories a day to maintain her record-breaking figure.

But women are much more than physical beauty. One of the smartest people in the world is a woman naked Marilyn vos Savant, who has an IQ of about 186. From 1986-1989, she held the Guinness Book of World Records for having the highest IQ before the category was discontinued in 1990 due to the inconsistency of the IQ tests. Considering that education for women is much younger than the educational system for men, this is quite an achievement and has proven that women can be just as smart (or smarter) than men.
Finally, women can be strong both emotionally and physically. The strongest woman in the world is Aneta Florcyzk, who can lift a grown man above her head. She has won numerous competitions and is no stranger to the first place spot.

EDUCATION :  [MUST LISTEN] The New Psycho Cybernetics by Dr. Maxwell Maltz and Dan Kennedy. Psycho-Cybernetics is a classic self-help book, written by Maxwell Maltz in 1960 and published by the non-profit Psycho-Cybernetics Foundation. The experts in personal development, including Zig Ziglar, Tony Robbins, Brian Tracy have based their techniques on Maxwell Maltz.

Many of the psychological methods of training elite athletes are based on the concepts in Psycho-Cybernetics as well.[2] The book combines the cognitive behavioral technique of teaching an individual how to regulate self-concept developed by Prescott Lecky with the cybernetics of Norbert Wiener and John von Neumann. The book defines the mind-body connection as the core in succeeding in attaining personal goals.

[3] Maltz found that his plastic surgery patients often had expectations that were not satisfied by the surgery, so he pursued a means of helping them set the goal of a positive outcome through visualization of that positive outcome.[4] Maltz became interested in why setting goals works. He learned that the power of self-affirmation and mental visualization techniques used the connection between the mind and the body. He specified techniques to develop a positive inner goal as a means of developing a positive outer goal. This concentration on inner attitudes is essential to his approach, as a person's outer success can never rise above the one visualized internally. Published on Jul 26, 2013 by SellandSucceedTV

"Thank you for your perception! I like your romantic side, even if I do not always comment and I'm glad that you're in my circle of friends."
(Courtesies by: Wolfgang A. Gerhardt)

Wolfgang A.Gerhardt : May be you like this Sunday collage

Cisca Zarmansyah : Before today, there never was a person doing this to me. You create a simple matter to look special. This is a special thing for me.

Cisca Zarmansyah : Thank you. I love it. I love you, my friend.

CieL- FreYa Ceastle : Hmm, he's so nice...

"I am me.
In all the world,
there is no one else exactly like me.
Everything that comes out of me
is authentically mine,
because I alone chose it --
I own everything about me:
my body,
my feelings,
my mouth,
my voice,
all my actions,
whether they be to others or myself.
I own my fantasies,
my dreams,
my hopes,
my fears.
I own my triumphs and successes,
all my failures and mistakes.
Because I own all of me,
I can become intimately acquainted with me.
By so doing,
I can love me
and be friendly with all my parts.
I know there are aspects about myself that puzzle me,
and other aspects that I do not know
-- but as long as I am friendly
and loving to myself,
I can courageously and hopefully
look for solutions
to the puzzles and ways
to find out more about me.
However I look and sound,
whatever I say and do,
and whatever I think and feel at a given moment in time
is authentically me.
If later some parts of how I looked,
sounded,
thought,
and felt
turn out to be unfitting,
I can discard that which is unfitting,
keep the rest,
and invent something new
for that which I discarded.
I can see,
hear,
feel,
think,
say, and do.
I have the tools to survive,
to be close to others,
to be productive,
and to make sense
and order out of the world of people
and things outside of me.
I own me,
and therefore,
I can engineer me.
I am me,
and I am okay."
